{"id":2056,"date":"2012-06-01T19:00:46","date_gmt":"2012-06-01T09:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/inthenews\/?p=2056"},"modified":"2015-04-29T13:49:16","modified_gmt":"2015-04-29T03:49:16","slug":"good-friday-appeal-cheque-presentation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/good-friday-appeal-cheque-presentation\/","title":{"rendered":"Good Friday Appeal cheque presentation"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_2057\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2057\" style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/2012\/06\/01\/good-friday-appeal-cheque-presentation\/aja_6877_01-resized-inter\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2057\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2057\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/files\/2012\/06\/AJA_6877_01-resized-inter.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2057\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Little Declan Barrett presents the GFA cheque to the RCH<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Good Friday Appeal (GFA)\u00a0presented a giant $15.8 million cheque to The Royal Children&#8217;s Hospital (RCH)\u00a0tonight, representing a record-breaking first for\u00a0the new hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The cheque was ably delivered to the stage\u00a0by 2012 GFA poster child, 23-month-old Declan Barrett, and accepted by RCH Chairman Tony Beddison AO and Chief Executive Officer Professor Christine Kilpatrick.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2063\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2063\" style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/2012\/06\/01\/good-friday-appeal-cheque-presentation\/aja_6911_01-resized-inter\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2063\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2063\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/files\/2012\/06\/AJA_6911_01-resized-inter.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2063\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Retiring GFA Executive Director Christine Unsworth with RCH Chairman Tony Beddison AO and RCH CEO Professor Christine Kilpatrick<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Professor Kilpatrick said the Good Friday Appeal played a significant role\u00a0in providing a healthy future for Victorian children and young people.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When we moved to this new hospital, we talked about it representing a new day for children&#8217;s health and I passionately believe that to be true.\u00a0 Together we can make a fundamental difference to the lives of young children,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Around 300 GFA supporters attended the event not only to celebrate their fundraising achievements, but to say farewell to retiring GFA Executive Director, Christine Unsworth.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Unsworth has spent 16 years at the helm and has contributed immensely to the GFA, which funds ground-breaking research, family support staff positions and world-class equipment at the RCH.<\/p>\n<p>Among other things, this year&#8217;s GFA funds will enable the hospital to purchase a PET MRI machine.\u00a0 This medical imaging equipment will significantly improve health outcomes for Victorian children.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Beddison AO expressed his gratitude to Ms Unsworth and the GFA team.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I would like to thank each and every one of you for making such a difference to our work here at the hospital and, importantly, to the lives of sick kids and their families,&#8221; said Mr Beddison.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Of course great results come from the efforts of great teams, and the role of leader in a team is critical.\u00a0 Without question this appeal has had a wonderful leadership since its inception, and more recently with Christine Unsworth as Appeal Executive Director,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Kilpatrick seconded the Chairman&#8217;s congratulations of Ms Unsworth.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When I started here four years ago I was amazed by the outpouring of support for our hospital.\u00a0 The Good Friday Appeal reflects our own brand essence &#8211; our unified spirit of care for children &#8211; and Christine embodies that spirit.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I wish to thank Christine for all she has done for our hospital; for her hard work and support,&#8221;
