{"id":17,"date":"2011-08-29T03:41:34","date_gmt":"2011-08-28T17:41:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/inthenews\/?p=17"},"modified":"2015-04-29T13:58:57","modified_gmt":"2015-04-29T03:58:57","slug":"the-new-royal-childrens-hospital-wows-minister-for-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/the-new-royal-childrens-hospital-wows-minister-for-health\/","title":{"rendered":"The new Royal Children&#8217;s Hospital wows Minister for Health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/2011\/08\/29\/the-new-royal-childrens-hospital-wows-minister-for-health\/rjr_6692_255px-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-54\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-54\" title=\"RJR_6692_255px\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/files\/2011\/08\/RJR_6692_255px.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"255\" height=\"170\" \/><\/a>With only 124 days to go before it opens, the new Royal Children&#8217;s Hospital (RCH) impressed the Hon David Davis, MP, Minister for Health this morning as he toured the state-of-the-art facility.<\/p>\n<p>The $1 billion project has been seven years in the making and construction workers are now applying the final touches inside the building.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blip.tv\/file\/get\/Rchmelbourne-20110729_Ch9SneakPeek498.mp3\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-583\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/files\/2011\/08\/Rchmelbourne-20110729_Ch9SneakPeek306-5792-290x160.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"290\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a>The Minister visited key areas of the hospital, including Emergency, Theatres, Intensive Care, the Cardiac Surgery ward and Specialist Clinics (outpatients).<\/p>\n<p>The new RCH has been designed with patients and families in mind.<\/p>\n<p>The central hub of the hospital, named Main Street, is based on the concept of a small country town.\u00a0 This light-filled atrium runs through the middle of the hospital from Flemington Road to Royal Park, and links directly to all hospital areas, including Emergency.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/a.images.blip.tv\/Rchmelbourne-20110729_Ch7SneakPeek407-520.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-584\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/files\/2011\/08\/Rchmelbourne-20110729_Ch7SneakPeek407-5201-290x160.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"290\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a>Inside the Emergency waiting area, a beautiful two-storey coral reef aquarium is ready to be filled with fish.\u00a0 It is designed to provide welcome distraction to children and families.<\/p>\n<p>The Specialist Clinics are conveniently located off Main Street and also contain distraction features such as landscaped courtyards for children to play.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blip.tv\/file\/get\/Rchmelbourne-20110729_Ch10SneakPeek104.m4v\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-585\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/files\/2011\/08\/Rchmelbourne-20110729_Ch10SneakPeek405-6781-290x160.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"290\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a>Minister Davis was particularly impressed with the meerkat enclosure, which is being constructed, saying it will provide enthusiasm, warmth and enjoyment to patients during difficult times.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everywhere you look is another surprise, another point of detail that you can see will make the hospital work better for children and their families,&#8221;
