Meet Eddie. The four-year-old loves Spiderman, construction vehicles, his little sister Annie and zooming around in his walker.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s also got his very own superpower!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Born at just 27 weeks, it was a time of a lot of unknowns and \u2018wait and sees.\u2019 He underwent multiple surgeries and spent weeks in The Royal Women\u2019s Hospital NICU.<\/p>\n

When Eddie was two years old, he was officially diagnosed with cerebral palsy, a group of movement disorders, which affects gross motor skills.<\/p>\n

With support from teams including Rehabilitation, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy at the RCH, Eddie\u2019s now off and racing.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s learning to climb and run with the help of his walker and AFOs (Ankle Foot Orthosis devices).<\/p>\n

Injections into his muscles have also helped significantly, allowing Eddie to climb the rope ladder at the park.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were all so excited,\u201d says Mum Alicia. \u201cEddie was very proud of himself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eddie\u2019s parents and little sister Annie are with him every step, learning all about CP \u2014 one of his books describes it as a superpower with assistive technology as his superhero gear.<\/p>\n

\u201cEddie likes that idea,\u201d explains Alicia.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur kids will run their own race in their own time,\u201d she says as an encouragement to other parents.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u201cKeep learning and celebrating all of the milestones big and small.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for Eddie\u2019s next milestones?<\/p>\n

He\u2019s working towards learning to swim, learning to walk more independently and is already excited to start school\u2026even if it\u2019s 18 months away!<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re working with Eddie\u2019s whole team towards him having as much independence as possible by the time he does get there\u201d, says Alicia.<\/p>\n

And beyond that? Eddie\u2019s already talking about the future…<\/p>\n

\u201cEddie is excited about is driving a car one day\u2026 and growing a beard,\u201d jokes Alicia.<\/p>\n
