Previously Dr Steer served as CEO of Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, President of McMaster Children\u2019s Hospital in Canada, and as CEO of Children\u2019s Health Queensland.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-10463 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/files\/2024\/12\/Dr-Peter-Steer-Headshot-224x280.jpg\" alt=\"Headshot of Dr Peter Steer\" width=\"274\" height=\"343\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/files\/2024\/12\/Dr-Peter-Steer-Headshot-224x280.jpg 224w, https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/files\/2024\/12\/Dr-Peter-Steer-Headshot-448x560.jpg 448w, https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/news\/files\/2024\/12\/Dr-Peter-Steer-Headshot.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 274px) 100vw, 274px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Most recently, Dr Steer has been the Group Chief Executive of Mater Misericordiae Ltd in Brisbane. Dr Steer has led Mater\u2019s services across Queensland, a not-for-profit ministry of Mercy Partners which brings together a range of critical services across health, education and research.<\/p>\n<p>Chair of the RCH Board, Dr Rowena Coutts said that Dr Steer\u2019s experience and proven track record positioned him as an outstanding choice for the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith nearly three decades of leadership experience across some of the finest paediatric services around the world, I\u2019m confident Dr Steer will help grow the RCH\u2019s global reputation as a leading paediatric academic hospital,\u201d Dr Coutts said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDr Steer demonstrated a clear understanding of the complexities facing the broader health sector and showed a deep appreciation for what it takes to work with health service stakeholders and government partners, while building sustainable and efficient organisations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr Steer said he was honoured to be the RCH\u2019s new CEO.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an extraordinary opportunity to contribute to the RCH\u2019s standing as an international leader in child and youth healthcare innovation,\u201d Dr Steer said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThroughout my life I have remained a passionate advocate for improving the quality of children\u2019s health. I started my career as a paediatrician and this passion is at the heart of my commitment to ensure every child has access to the highest quality care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe RCH is known as one of the world\u2019s great children\u2019s hospitals \u2013 and it will be a privilege to play a leading part in this wonderful hospital\u2019s future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr Steer\u2019s extensive experience in children\u2019s health in Australia and overseas is supported by significant research activity.
