This Grand Round invites us to pause, reflect, and move beyond simplified narratives to understand the diversity, courage and resilience of refugee-background children and families who are part of our hospital community every day &#8211; as patients, caregivers, staff, and colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Speakers:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Associate Professor Georgia Paxton, OAM<\/strong>, is a paediatrician with more than 20 years\u2019 experience in child refugee and migrant health. Associate Professor Paxton is Head of Immigrant Health at The Royal Children&#8217;s Hospital and\u00a0holds appointments at Melbourne Children&#8217;s Campus, and advisory roles for the Department of Home Affairs, the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing and the WHO Technical Advisory Group on Health, Migration and Displacement. Her work spans clinical care, research, education, guideline development and policy in refugee health, with a focus on responsive care and equitable access to health services.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr Tiba Maloof<\/strong> is a child and adolescent psychiatrist at The Royal Children\u2019s Hospital. supporting children and families from refugee and migrant backgrounds as the Immigrant Health psychiatrist. Dr Maloof\u2019s clinical interests include trauma-informed care, refugee and immigrant health, and the intersection of mental health and forced displacement. She also has a strong interest in neurodevelopmental disorders and paediatric neuropsychiatry. Dr Maloof is a clinical leader for trauma-informed care, focused on improving health outcomes for children and families impacted by trauma in whatever form.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Associate Professor Hamish Graham<\/strong> is a paediatrician-researcher with a focus on global child health equity and health systems strengthening, who works as a paediatrician for Immigrant Health. Associate Professor Graham\u2019s work spans low-resource and humanitarian settings, with a particular interest in improving quality of care for vulnerable populations, including newborns and children affected by displacement. He leads the International Child Health research group, combining clinical care with implementation and health services research, and is passionate about amplifying the voices and experiences of marginalised communities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What comes to mind when you hear the word \u201crefugee\u201d?
