In this Grand Round, we will discuss challenges with early recognition and initial management of sepsis in children. We will discuss RCH efforts to improve the care of children with sepsis, including local, national, and international collaborations. Guests from critical care and infectious disease will discuss clinical and research priorities necessary to address sepsis care in other hospital contexts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Speakers:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Associate Professor Elliot Long<\/strong> is an emergency physician at The Royal Children\u2019s Hospital, a Clinician-Scientist and Sepsis Research Team Leader at Murdoch Children\u2019s Research Institute, and an Associate Professor through the Department of Critical Care at the University of Melbourne. He is the vice-chair of the Paediatric Research in Emergency Departments International Collaborative (PREDICT) network. His PhD focussed on fluid resuscitation for sepsis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Professor Franz Babl<\/strong> is the Professor of Paediatric Emergency Medicine, Department of Paediatrics, University of Melbourne, a paediatric emergency physician at Royal Children\u2019s Hospital and the group leader of emergency research at Murdoch Children\u2019s Research Institute. His research focus is on multicentre observational and interventional studies in acute paediatric conditions via the research network PREDICT (Paediatric Research in Emergency Departments International Collaborative).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the emergency setting, sepsis is the primary or differential diagnosis for a substantial proportion of febrile or unwell children.
