{"id":2261,"date":"2023-08-30T01:30:38","date_gmt":"2023-08-29T15:30:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/grandrounds\/?p=2261"},"modified":"2023-09-27T10:46:36","modified_gmt":"2023-09-27T00:46:36","slug":"every-child-in-every-community-needs-a-fair-go","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/grandrounds\/2023\/08\/30\/every-child-in-every-community-needs-a-fair-go\/","title":{"rendered":"Every child in every community needs a fair go"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/864623709?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Synopsis:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This Grand Round, in the lead up to Child Protection Week 3-9<sup>th<\/sup> September, will\u00a0focus\u00a0on how as a health\u00a0service\u00a0we can identify\u00a0children who are at risk of missing out on essential medical\u00a0care.\u00a0Each year at RCH thousands of health care encounters are missed when children and young people are not brought for scheduled appointments.\u00a0For some\u00a0children\u00a0this can lead to harm,\u00a0and rarely even have fatal consequences.\u00a0As a health service\u00a0we\u00a0need to consider what the impacts are for these children and\u00a0be aware of our role in reducing the risk of harm\u00a0in this vulnerable group.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Speakers:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr Karen McLean<\/strong> is the Vulnerable Child Health Lead, Centre for Community Child Health. As a paediatrician, a researcher and through advocacy, she works clinically and with systems to improve access to timely healthcare for children in out-of-home care.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Susie Kieliszek<\/strong> is a Clinical Nurse Consultant at RCH who is co-located at the Footscray DFFH office as one of the two Vulnerable Child Health coordinator. She works alongside Child Protection in Brimbank, Melton and Western Melbourne to improve the health outcomes of the vulnerable children who have child protection involvement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anna Lucia<\/strong> is a Senior Social Worker at RCH and currently working within the Family Violence Team.
