{"id":1848,"date":"2020-12-09T12:30:53","date_gmt":"2020-12-09T01:30:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/grandrounds\/?p=1848"},"modified":"2020-12-17T11:35:59","modified_gmt":"2020-12-17T00:35:59","slug":"planetary-health-safeguarding-health-in-the-anthropocene-epoch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/grandrounds\/2020\/12\/09\/planetary-health-safeguarding-health-in-the-anthropocene-epoch\/","title":{"rendered":"Planetary Health: Safeguarding Health in the Anthropocene Epoch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/491481563?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Synopsis<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In this talk, Professor Tony Capon will introduce the findings of the Rockefeller Foundation\u2013<em>Lancet<\/em> Commission on Planetary Health which published the report <em>Safeguarding human health in the Anthropocene epoch<\/em> in 2015, and canvass the implications of these findings for the future protection and promotion of human health and wellbeing.\u00a0 To respond effectively to the health challenges of the Anthropocene, societies need to grapple with the global transitions that are now shaping our lives\u2013demographic, epidemiological, food, energy, urban, economic, cultural and ecological.\u00a0 Humanity can chart a safe, healthy and prosperous course ahead by addressing inequities in health and wealth within the environmental limits of the Earth.\u00a0 However, this will require wise policies, decisive action and inspirational leadership.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Speaker<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Professor Tony Capon, <\/strong>Director, Monash Sustainable Development Institute, Professor of Planetary Health, School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Monash University.
