The COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences enhance the already increased risk for abuse among people with disabilities. This Grand Round provides both clinical strategies and a broader call to action for addressing family violence and coercive control against people with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Nicole Lee is a survivor and advocate for women with disabilities who have been subjected to domestic and family violence.\u00a0 Nicole shares her\u00a0insights on how health workers can recognise and respond to the challenges and best support our patients and families.<\/p>\n<p>Following Nicole\u2019s presentation, she will joined by Dr Giuliana Antolovich and Dani Gold for a discussion about how we at the Royal Children\u2019s Hospital can learn and adapt our response, ensuring a safe place for all.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Speakers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Nicole Lee<\/strong> is a family violence survivor and passionate disability activist who has played a major role through her appointment to the Victorian Governments Victim Survivors\u2019 Advisory Council and as a Board member of Safe Steps\u00a0State-wide Family Violence Response Centre. Nicole focuses her presentation on family violence perpetrated against those who have a disability, or who depend on carers or family members for support. Recent appearances on television, radio and print media shows Nicole\u2019s drive and commitment to changing the lives of women and children throughout Victoria.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr Giuliana Antolovich<\/strong> is a consultant paediatrician, Neurodevelopment &amp; Disability at The Royal Children\u2019s Hospital.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dani Gold<\/strong> is a Specialist family violence advisor, Mental Health, RCH.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Interpersonal violence against people with disabilities is a major public health concern.
