She will examine the role of the medical profession in providing credible evidence and assessment of the effect of detention on children.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Speaker<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Professor Gillian Triggs<\/strong> is an Australian academic specialising in public international law.\u00a0 She was President of the Australian Human Rights Commission (HRC) from 2012 to 2017. Prof Triggs is a former Dean of the Sydney Law School, where she was the Challis Professor of International Law between 2007 and 2012. Prior to that she was a professor at the Melbourne Law School.<\/p>\n<p>Gillian Triggs was Acting Race Discrimination Commissioner of the HRC from July 2012 to August 2013, and is presently the Acting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner.
