This project has been several years in its planning and implementation phases. It is an expensive undertaking and one which has used a lot of the creative energy of many staff at RCH. The transition from our current way of working to a new way using the EMR will, like any other major change, be challenging for everyone involved.<\/p>\n<p>As we make the final preparations for go-live it is timely to pause for thought and remind ourselves why we embarked on this journey.<\/p>\n<p>What are the anticipated benefits for our patients, for our staff, for clinical research and for the broader community?<\/p>\n<p>Will it all be worth it?<\/p>\n<p>Maintaining a focus on the future benefits we hope to achieve will help us get through the short-term challenges we will face in the transition.\u00a0 \u201cKeep your eye on the prize and hold on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Speaker<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Professor Mike South<\/strong> is a paediatrician and Chief Medical Information Officer at RCH.
