Welcome to the RCH International Medical Graduate Alumni News

2019 has been a busy and exciting year for us here at the RCH, and I’m pleased to share with you some of our achievements to date.

In April this year we underwent an organisation-wide accreditation, and I’m proud to say that all assessment standards were comfortably met, with some of our services being named as exemplars. The assessors’ report made particular mention of our comprehensive clinical systems and processes, staff pride in how they maintain their areas, the level of cleanliness, our commitment to consumer participation and our integration and harnessing of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

The ongoing optimisation of our EMR has remained a priority for our team, and I’m delighted to report that we are the first hospital in Australia to achieve a Stage 7 rating from Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) for our Outpatient EMR. You can read more about this achievement in the story below.

We are now collaborating with Melbourne Health, The Royal Women’s Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre to create one shared EMR system across the precinct through the Connecting Care program. Connecting Care is the biggest EMR program in Australia, and will be instrumental in creating a better patient experience across our four health services.

We have also continued delivering care to children outside the four walls of our hospital, and providing education and health resources to families through the RCH National Child Health Poll. The most recent Poll looked at the knowledge, attitudes and behaviours of Australian families in relation to the use of child restraints and booster seats when travelling in the family car, and its findings reached more than 15.7 million people, reinforcing the RCH’s role as a global leader in paediatric healthcare and as a trusted source of information for families.

We have also recently released our updated Paediatric Injectable Guidelines – with more than 100 clinical updates, monographs for more than 300 injectable drugs and many new drug monographs – to assist with providing standardised practices and care.

I am very proud of our team and what we have achieved so far this year, and I hope you enjoy reading more about what’s been happening at the RCH in this edition.
