But we know that most health research fails to influence practice or policy \u2013 or takes more than a decade to do so.<\/p>\n<p>This project developed and is currently implementing a framework to better support the translation of knowledge into practice and policy, and enhance the impact of research undertaken at Melbourne Children\u2019s<sup>1<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3>Key points<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The failure to translate research into practice and policy has been a consistent finding of clinical and health services research.<\/li>\n<li>This project was established to consider how to build the capacity of Melbourne Children\u2019s to support and enhance the translation of knowledge into practice and policy, and optimise the impact of our research.<\/li>\n<li>A review of the literature and consultations with campus staff and knowledge translation experts led to the development of a framework for knowledge translation and research impact.<\/li>\n<li>We are currently implementing and evaluating the framework with researchers and clinicians at Melbourne Children\u2019s.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<div id=\"54998af6-bf8e-8e8a-63ad-1661b4669a61\" class=\"aloha-table-wrapper aloha-block aloha-block-DefaultBlock\"><\/div>\n<h2>The framework<\/h2>\n<p>We reviewed the literature, surveyed campus staff and interviewed campus leaders and knowledge translation experts. This research revealed key organisational enablers and facilitators of knowledge translation and research impact. Over the next three years we will:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>implement and evaluate the framework with three research teams<\/li>\n<li>deliver training for staff<\/li>\n<li>develop a suite of resources to build capability in knowledge translation and research impact<\/li>\n<li>track and report on our progress.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Good knowledge translation can transform research into prevention, early intervention, better treatment, informed policy and practice, and improved health and wellbeing.
