{"id":1665,"date":"2015-10-08T01:37:41","date_gmt":"2015-10-08T01:37:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/ccch\/?p=1665"},"modified":"2018-12-18T12:14:33","modified_gmt":"2018-12-18T01:14:33","slug":"changing-the-social-discourse-on-child-mental-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/ccch\/2015\/10\/08\/changing-the-social-discourse-on-child-mental-health\/","title":{"rendered":"Changing the social discourse on child mental health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Centre Director Professor Frank Oberklaid has featured on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/local\/audio\/2015\/10\/05\/4326280.htm\">ABC&#8217;s Mental As<\/a> week of special programmes focussed on mental health.<\/p>\n<p>Streaming live from The Royal Children&#8217;s Hospital Melbourne on Monday 5 October, Professor Oberklaid has called for a &#8220;change in the social discourse about child mental illness and mental health&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>This follows the findings from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.gov.au\/internet\/main\/publishing.nsf\/Content\/9DA8CA21306FE6EDCA257E2700016945\/$File\/child2.pdf\">landmark national survey<\/a> into the mental health and wellbeing of children and adolescents in Australia, revealing one in seven Australian children between the ages of four and 16 years have a mental health problem.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Oberklaid has called for a broad, community approach to the management of child mental health problems.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mental health isn\u2019t just about doctors.
