{"id":1490,"date":"2014-11-24T05:27:21","date_gmt":"2014-11-24T05:27:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/ccch\/?p=1490"},"modified":"2014-11-24T05:30:34","modified_gmt":"2014-11-24T05:30:34","slug":"paediatric-research-that-makes-a-difference-prof-melissa-wake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/ccch\/2014\/11\/24\/paediatric-research-that-makes-a-difference-prof-melissa-wake\/","title":{"rendered":"Paediatric research that makes a difference: Prof Melissa Wake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CCCH Associate Director Professor Melissa Wake recently presented to the Paediatric Society of New Zealand about how population paediatric research can make a difference to children\u2019s health.<\/p>\n<p>During her keynote presentation, Prof Wake spoke of her interest in \u201chow health and wellbeing get transmitted across generations&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>She is now embarking on a new research study assessing the physical health of children approaching their teenage years and their parents.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcri.edu.au\/research\/research-projects\/lsac-childhealthcheckpoint\/\">Child Health CheckPoint<\/a>, a new phase of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.growingupinaustralia.gov.au\/\">Growing Up in Australia study<\/a>, is a special one-off physical health assessment offered to the 11-12 year old children in Growing Up in Australia and their parents.<\/p>\n<p>The CheckPoint activities will measure heart, lung, kidney and bone health, fitness, strength, vision, hearing, diet, activity and more.<\/p>\n<p>Prof Wake heads up the Child Health Checkpoint.
