Family Partnership Model
The Family Partnership Model is an evidence-based relational approach that enables professionals to develop an open dialogue with parents, respond to the emerging needs of children and families and effectively support parents to achieve shared goals that improve the lives of children.
Introduction to the Family Partnership Model: Building and sustaining relationships with parents
A series of facilitated sessions that introduce practitioners to the Family Partnership Model with particular focus on building and sustaining a partnership relationship with parents.
This series of facilitated on-line seminars are informed by the content of the Family Partnership Model and have been adapted to on-line delivery. They are designed to be delivered sequentially with a consistent group of participants, preferably in groups of nine or twelve to enable breakout groups of three.
Content of sessions:
- An introductory session – Why engage parents? What we know about parent engagement
- Introduction to the Family Partnership Model
- Skills involved in engaging and helping families
- Family ecology – risk and resilience factors
- Review within a partnership
- Review of the course and reflecting on my practice

Duration: 9 hour workshop (6 x 90 minute sessions)

Family Partnership Model Foundation Course
The course supports professionals to work with families to identify their needs, to build genuine and respectful ‘partnerships’, to set goals and to help families to achieve these goals. The course takes an adult learning approach which values, recognises and builds on the experience that participants bring with them.
Over the five day course, you will:
- explore how the family partnership model enhances professionals capacity to work collaboratively with families
- explore how helper qualities and skills, when used in partnership, can enable parents and families to overcome their difficulties and build on their strengths
- access tools to enable you to effectively work towards shared goals with families
- practice implementing new knowledge and skills in a safe and supportive environment
Workshop details
Delivery: face-to-face
Duration: 5 days
Cost: $1,312 incl GST per participant (Metropolitan Melbourne & Regional Victoria)
Face-to-face workshops will incur additional travel expenses. A quote will be provided on application.
Target audience
Early year’s educators, maternal and child health nurses, allied health practitioners, early intervention practitioners, family support workers, Foundation and Year 2 educators or leaders, community members and others who might be involved in working with parents and their children.
Workshops are available in regional and rural locations – additional costs may apply to cover travel.

Delivery details for groups
Online:
Online participants will require access to a device (computer or tablet) with MICROPHONE and CAMERA functionality to participate fully in this workshop. Ideally participants should be on their own device and not sharing screens with other participants.
Face-to-face:
Organisations must provide venue and catering. The venue must be able to accommodate participants in a safe environment, allowing for current restrictions around social distancing.
Capacity:
- Minimum 8 online participants, maximum 12
- Minimum of 9 face-to-face participants, maximum 15
Organisations may wish to partner with other organisations to meet minimum numbers.
