{"id":4977,"date":"2024-12-16T12:25:15","date_gmt":"2024-12-16T02:25:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/cah\/?p=4977"},"modified":"2024-12-18T07:10:11","modified_gmt":"2024-12-17T21:10:11","slug":"an-update-from-health-promoting-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.rch.org.au\/cah\/2024\/12\/16\/an-update-from-health-promoting-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"Building Capacity for Health-Promoting Schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Making every school a Health-Promoting School<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 2021 the United Nations agencies responsible for health and education: the <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/\">World Health Organization<\/a><\/u>\u00a0(WHO) and the <u><a href=\"https:\/\/en.unesco.org\/\">United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization<\/a><\/u>\u00a0(UNESCO) launched a new initiative <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/initiatives\/making-every-school-a-health-promoting-school\">\u201cMaking Every School a Health-Promoting School\u201d<\/a><\/u>. Central to this initiative was the development of the first ever Global Standards for Health-Promoting Schools and accompanying Implementation Guidance. <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcri.edu.au\/news-stories\/global-standards-embed-health-and-wellbeing-education-system\">Commissioned by the WHO and UNESCO, this work was led by researchers at the Centre for Adolescent Health<\/a><\/u>.<\/p>\n<p>Health-Promoting Schools and other comprehensive approaches to school health have been shown to have positive impacts on adolescent health and health behaviours. The development of the Global Standards for Health-Promoting Schools brings a systems lens, recognising that schools themselves are systems within which opportunities for health promotion, as part of quality education, can be amplified when multiple levers are aligned.
