Justice Health Unit lodges submission to Inquiry into family, domestic and sexual violence<\/h2>\n

The Justice Health Unit<\/a>\u00a0at CAH, MCRI and the University of Melbourne has lodged a submission into the Inquiry into family, domestic and sexual violence<\/em>. This\u00a0inquiry<\/a>\u00a0aims to inform the next\u00a0National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children\u00a0<\/em>and examine how governments and the community can prevent violence against women and their children and better support those most at risk.<\/p>\n

In the submission, JHU researchers Melissa Willoughby, Emilia Janca, Dr Rohan Borschmann, Prof Stuart Kinner and Dr Jesse Young argued that women who experience incarceration have an elevated risk of family, domestic and sexual violence victimisation, and therefore should be considered a priority group for violence prevention policies and violence victimisation support services.<\/p>\n

Evidence-informed policy decisions targeted at resourcing and optimising transitional\u00a0health and social support for women is critical to reduce this group’s risk of violence victimisation.<\/p>\n
